Avast Finds 47 Dangerous Games on Android, Remove them now!
Anti-virus company, Avast together with Apklab.io recently revealed their findings regarding a number of dangerous games contained in the Play store. Avast ranks at least around 47 dangerous Android games that carry malicious Adware.
According to Jakub Vávra, a threat analyst at Avast, from the results of research conducted at the end of June 2020. Generally, this malicious application is difficult for users to recognize because it is still part of the HiddenAds family. Where this Adware works like a Trojan, which disguises itself as a game application and blends with popular games to make it look convincing.
If the game is downloaded by Smartphone users, without realizing it, the game will display ads continuously on the cellphone screen without being able to be controlled. Even for certain types of games the Adware will remain attached to the Smartphone even though the application has been uninstalled.
“Because it is very carefully disguised as an application or game so that it is impossible for ordinary users to identify it,” explained Jakub as reported by PCMag, Sunday (27/6/2020).
“Programs like HiddenAds can sneak in the Play Store secretly, obfuscate their original purpose, or introduce malicious features slowly after the application is downloaded by the user,” said Jakub.
Ironically, the series of games that contain malicious programs are included in the popular games category on the Play Store. Unfortunately, these games have been downloaded by more than 15 million users. Shortly after Avast published its findings, the apps and games that made the list were no longer accessible.
So far, of the 47 games containing the Adware, 30 of them have been removed by the Google Play Store. While the remaining 17 can still be found and downloaded by users. In order to avoid the worst, Avast advises users not to download the dangerous game. If the user has already installed it, Avast recommends removing it immediately.

In addition to Avast, the same discovery was also disclosed by WhiteOps. An operation carried out by WhiteOps in mid-June managed to reveal 38 malicious apps and games that often attack users with unexpected advertisements.
Not only infiltrated by advertisements, Adware contained in these malicious applications or games also often diverts browsers which tend to annoy users. In fact, there is an opinion that there is a fraud code in the application. Of course this is very risky for users who download it.
“The White Ops Satori Threat Intelligence and Research Team recently identified and tracked a fraudulent operation that interfered with users’ devices with advertisements. These apps were downloaded more than 20 million times,” said WhiteOps.
Adware Deployment Map
According to a report released by Avast, the spread of Adware contained in applications and games has spread to various countries. Meanwhile, compared to other countries, India and the Southeast Asian region, including Indonesia, are the areas most affected by the virus.
This data is only calculated for Avast users since the beginning of the deployment, not including deployments that attack non-Avast users. Unfortunately, until now it is not known who the manufacturer of the Adware is, including Avast.
How to Prevent Android Adware
To prevent the entry of harmful Adware into smartphones, Avast provides tips that you can try the following.
- Pay attention to the Permissions that are Allowed at the beginning of the Application Installation, don’t just Yes Yes Yes.
- Read both the Privacy Policy and the Terms and Conditions of the Application that you are going to Install.
- Before installing a game or application, you should read the review first.
- Download the Anti Virus you trust, whether it’s Avast, KasperSky, or BitDefender to add a layer of defense to your smartphone.
Although mobile games, especially Android, are now increasingly loved, it would be nice if you were to be careful when downloading games from the Play store. Especially if the game developer has a bad reputation.
