5G Smartphone Predicted to Be Marketed in 2019
Technological developments are increasingly sophisticated. Not only in terms of mobile devices, network technology is also developing from time to time. After 4G networks are almost used by most of the world’s smartphones, now 5G networks are becoming a hot topic in the telecommunications world. Although currently the development of 5G networks is still limited to network infrastructure, it is reported that in two years or in 2019, smartphones with 5G technology will start circulating. Wow!
This was revealed by Qualcomm CEO Steven Mollenkopf at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Germany which was held last September 2017. He said that the first commercial marketing of 5G smartphones will begin in 2019 or sooner than previously estimated (2020) due to demand from consumers and also from a business perspective.
“You will see real devices in 2019. If I answered a similar question last year, I would answer 2020,” said Mollenkopf (19/9/2017), as followed from the detikINET page.
Mollenkopf also added that currently there are several network operators in the United States, Japan and South Korea who are preparing to launch 5G networks in 2019. In addition, there are also Chinese cellular operators who are also making similar preparations.
5G Network Testing in the World
Although it is still limited to developing network infrastructure, many parties have begun to prepare for 5G network trials. For example, Qualcomm has tested 5G networks around the world.
In February 2017 Qualcomm announced a partnership with Ericsson and Telstra to pilot 5G networks. At the same time, Qualcomm and Ericsson will also be trial partners for 5G networks with NTT DoCoMo, a Japanese telecommunications operator, and Vodafone, a telecommunications giant in Europe.
5G network trials with NTT DoCoMo in Japan will be carried out in the first half of 2018, while Vodafone will do the same in the UK before the end of 2017. Qualcomm is also currently assisting Verizon to conduct pro-commercial 5G network trials with Samsung, Cisco, Ericsson. , Nokia, Intel and LG.
ZTE Tests 5G Network in India
As mentioned above, not only telecommunications operators have shown interest in testing 5G networks, cellular operators from China are also reportedly doing the same thing. This is confirmed by ZTE which has started testing 5G network technology in India on Tuesday (3/10/2017). Besides ZTE, which is a Chinese company, there are also telecommunications companies from India that are doing the same thing, namely Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Reliance Jio.
India is one of the wireless markets global market and the largest smartphone that continues to grow at a very fast pace as well as one of the important markets for ZTE products. No wonder this Chinese company is testing the use of 5G networks in India. This step is also taken to be more competitive with other competitors who are also targeting the Indian market, such as Huawei, Nokia, and Ericsson.
Indonesia Implement 5G in 2019?
If many world operators have tested 5G networks, then what about Indonesia. Will the 5G network also be implemented in 2019?
According to the Head of the Human Resources Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Basuki Yusuf Iskandar, there is still a lot of homework if Indonesia wants to implement a 5G network because as a comparison, the current use of 4G networks in Indonesia has only reached 55%. According to him, there are many things that must be prepared. Starting from government regulations, the readiness of telecommunication operators to educating the public so that they can take full advantage of the 5G network.
