GridGames.ID – The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused challenges in the gaming industry.

Interestingly, although this industry has been affected, not all aspects of the gaming industry have been hit by this pandemic, such as from a financial perspective.

Reporting from GameSpot, because playing games has become an activity at home, players are spending money and time more often to get entertainment in the midst of a pandemic.

As a mandatory health protocol, social distancing makes video games now make more money than the film and sports industries combined.

According to data from the International Data Corporation (MarketWatch), global gaming revenue is expected to reach around US$197.7 billion by the end of the year.

That figure is up about 20% over last year, and the success of consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X is a significant contributing factor.

While in 2019, the film and sports industries generated a total profit of around US$ 175 billion and both fell significantly this year.

In addition to console sales on the rise, the biggest increase in gaming revenue is also coming from the mobile gaming industry.
