The Overwatch League App is Officially Released on Mobile
Blizzard has officially released the Overwatch League application for Android and iOS smartphone devices on January 8, 2018. This official release was made just a few days before the official Overwatch League inaugural season began.
The Overwatch League app can be downloaded for free on the Google Play Store app store as well as iTunes. By using this free application, Overwatch fans can see the schedule and standings of the Overwatch League in real-time.
Blizzard has planned to keep fans updated with interviews, profiling, and in-game analysis. In this application, Blizzard has provided ten languages, namely French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Korean, and Chinese.
The Overwatch League application has a feature that serves to send push notifications to its users’ phones. With this feature, fans will always remember the match, so they will never forget it. At the request of fans, there is the option to watch the Overwatch League live and/or watch it at the desired time. An in-depth standings review in this app will also be viewable throughout the Overwatch League season as it rolls around.
The Overwatch League was announced to be hosted by Blizzard in November 2016 at BlizzCon in Anaheim, California. Blizzard expects the Overwatch League to continue to thrive for many years. This championship was created with Blizzard’s desire to have a structured league that supports Overwatch, its players and teams.
Post Season matches begin on June 17 and continue through July 28, 2018. The Post Season matches for the championship playoffs run from July 11-22. The grand final is scheduled for July 26-28. After that, players will participate in All-Star Weekend games, just like in the NBA. Twelve teams will take part in the first season of the Overwatch League. Nine from North America and three international teams. Each team is associated with a location in the world and is divided into two divisions, namely Atlantic or Pacific.
In a participating team, there must be a minimum of six players on the roster, with a maximum of 12 players. The roster is currently locked. Players are guaranteed a minimum salary of $50,000, plus perks. Some players, even reported to have signed contracts for $ 150,000.
In addition to salary, players can earn extra money on performance when winning Overwatch League matches. According to Blizzard, fifty percent of the winnings per game will be sent directly to players. The total Overwatch League prize pool in the first season will be $3.5 million, with a minimum of $1 million going to this season’s first winner.
The Overwatch League will be held every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and also Saturday throughout the regular season schedule. Game time, will switch every day in order to cater for different time zones. This decision was made so that all fans can enjoy Major League Gaming’s broadcast service. Blizzard has yet to confirm that the Overwatch League will broadcast on Twitch.
Fans can support their favorite Overwatch League team by purchasing in-game items and merchandise. The skins are not yet available, but a plethora of goodies for the Overwatch League are available in the Blizzard store now. Some of the revenue received from Overwatch League items will be funneled directly to your favorite team.
