Performing well in several DotA 2 Pro Circuit events brought blessings to the LGD Gaming team from China. The reason is, the team gets a big sponsor that makes their roster life guaranteed. The sponsor in question is Paris Saint-Germain. With the inclusion of PSG as the main sponsor, LGD changed its name to PSG LGD.
Previously, Paris Saint-Germain aka PSG had penetrated the world of MOBA games through League of Legends. They entered the eSports games after Behdad Jaafarian, owner of Team Huma, was banned from the organization’s ownership by Riot Games.
The History of the Formation of PSG LGD
Places in their Challenger Series League are purchased via contest. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) acquired Team Huma and changed their brand to Paris Saint-Germain Esports. According to reports, the deal made is similar to FC Schalke 04, as PSG do not own the team directly, but own their image and license rights. The deal was reportedly finalized by Bang Bang CEO, Casha Brodowski.
Currently, the French football club, Paris Saint-Germain’s esports division, is making a comeback to the MOBA genre. The organization announced an official partnership with the LGD Gaming China team, at a press conference in Shanghai. This new squad will thus wear the official PSG uniform in all LAN appearances from now on, as well as playing under the name “PSG LGD”.
This latest news from LGD marks the first time that a major European football club has invested in their own Dota 2 team. According to the official press release accompanying the announcement, PSG Esports has targeted Asia as a possible expansion and as part of their development strategy.
“We are excited to once again be pioneers by being the first major European football club to invest in Dota 2,said Fabien Allègre, director of merchandising and diversification at PSG.
“With an average of over 500,000 players connected simultaneously, Dota 2 is one of the most popular esports games – especially in Asia, a strategic region for PSG.“
LGD have found success in several events on the Dota 2 Circuit, particularly at the Dota 2 Asia Championships – where they came in second against Southeast Asia-based team Mineski in the 2018 DAC grand final. defeated in China, and is a serious threat to other squads around the world.
LGD Gaming will play under the PSG LGD banner while at the Epicenter XL which is the next Pro Major Circuit which will take place in Moscow on Friday, 27 April. Epicenter XL will have a total prize pool of $1 million, and a total of 1500 Pro Circuit points. Given PSG.LGD’s rather precarious position on the circuit board, they will not hesitate to win this event to extend their lead over the ninth-placed team, Evil Geniuses.
As a side note, although PSG is the main sponsor of LGD Gaming. The French football club is not the sole sponsor. LGD Gaming is still sponsored by other sponsors such as ZOTAC, VP Game, Kingston Hyperx, Autofull, and Laogandie Food.
