For Production, Indonesian Game Developers Still Rely On Private Funds

GridGames.ID – Developers aka game developers usually get funding from investors to produce a game.

Unfortunately, the majority of game developers in Indonesia still rely on private funds to produce games.

This is known from research conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), and the Indonesian Game Association (AGI) entitled “Map of the Indonesian Game Industry Ecosystem 2020”, which GridGames reports from the Kompas.com page.

This research involved 80 respondents consisting of game developers and publishers with small to large business scales surveyed on July 31 – September 11, 2020.

Of the tens of respondents, around 67.5 percent admitted that they still rely on personal funds for their own company’s production and operations.

Meanwhile, other respondents received funds from Angel Investment (10.8 percent), Venture Capital Investment (4.8 percent), Incubator or Accelerator (3.6 percent), Crowdfunding (1.2 percent), and other funding sources ( 12 percent).

The majority of investors, which is around 60 percent, come from within the country, while from abroad around 30 percent, and a combined investor of the two is 10 percent.
