Apple Tightens Release Policy on China's AppStore

Apple Store

The Chinese government announced a new policy regarding game releases, publishers, developers, and managers of digital platforms must issue ISBNs for games managed by them. Apple itself has announced that it will be preparing to implement the Chinese government’s policy for the AppStore.

Apple has begun to warn game developers on the AppStore platform to immediately have an ISBN. If game developers on the AppStore platform do not have an ISBN by June 30, then new games will not be able to be listed on the Chinese AppStore.

This ISBN policy applies to games that are new to the AppStore, it is not yet known whether previously released games must apply this policy, this is still waiting for an official decision from Apple. Apparently, this policy only applies to new paid games that also include in-game purchases while free games with no purchases in them do not apply this policy temporarily.

The Chinese government is serious about dealing with policies related to video game content because they don’t want the content to conflict with their government’s policies. Apple is trying to strictly enforce this policy on the AppStore platform so that later they can still maintain sales in the Chinese market.
