Here's Why Xbox Series S SSD Size Is Only 512GB

the reason why xbox series s ssd size is 512gb

Here’s Why Xbox Series S SSD Size Is Only 512GB – Has a 512GB SSD only. Here’s Microsoft’s explanation regarding the SSD Series S size.

A few days ago, Microsoft officially announced their latest console series, the Xbox Series S. In the announcement, Microsoft showed the specifications, release date and price of the Xbox Series S.

What’s interesting about the announcement is the size of the SSD storage belonging to the Xbox Series S. Microsoft provides the Series with a 512GB SSD. Which many players think that the size of the 512GB SSD is too small, especially for the latest generation of consoles. At least games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare require 200GB of storage. This will make the Xbox Series S only able to play a few games. In response to these concerns, Microsoft finally opened its voice.

Why Xbox Series S 512GB SSD Size?

In a leaked press conference regarding the size of the Xbox Series S SSD, Head of Platform Engineering and Hardware, Liz Hamren, said:

“When we switch to SSD technology, we get much higher performance, but of course that higher performance comes at a higher cost. And, you know more storage is always better, so we tried to balance storage drive size and cost and we got 512GB.”

SSD prices are much more expensive than HDDs. The bigger the SSD size, the more expensive it is. Hamrem also explained that they had tried their best to price the Xbox Series S well. So the 512GB SSD on the Series S is the best Sony can offer for $299.

Hamren continued that on the console Xbox Series X, Microsoft provides much more storage than Series S. Xbox Series S is equipped with 512GB SSD storage capable of playing 3 to 5 AAA games at launch. But if players really need a lot of space, they have to add console storage. This is the only correct solution to the storage problem on the console.
