Gearbox's New IP Will Launch Before April 2022!

Not long ago, Gearbox as the developer of Borderlands is said to have been officially acquired by the parent company of THQ Nordic – Embracer Group. Even so, Gearbox still has full rights to their franchises. Including Borderlands itself, which in fact brought up Gearbox’s name all this time.

But recently, there have been rumors saying that a spin-off game from Borderlands is being developed.

Still Managed Gearbox

According to the news, Gearbox itself will not be the main developer in this spin-off project. This news was quickly dismissed directly by the CEO of Gearbox – Randy Pitchford. He said that Gearbox is still the main developer of the Borderlands franchise.

Apart from that, Gearbox is also reportedly preparing a new IP besides Borderlands. According to VGC, Take-Two, owner of 2K Games and publisher of the Borderlands series, plans to release 21 games during the current fiscal year.

Gearbox Prepares A New IP

Of the many games that will be released by Take-Two, one of the new IPs belongs to Gearbox Software. Meanwhile, there will be 4 core games, originating from two giant franchises and two new IPs that are still unknown.

Since the fiscal year ends in March 2022, this means that at least Gearbox’s new IP will launch in April 2022 at the latest. After the report from VGC, Pitchford agreed with the news.

Although he is still reluctant to provide further details regarding the IP. However, they have been developing this latest franchise for a long time. This year’s E3 game event will probably be the site of the announcement of the game.
