Is Tobias Harris and Horford's $289 Million Contract Worth It?

Elton Brand and the Philadelphia 76ers made some good signings including, Tobias Harris and Al Horford. Now the question is, is the contract of Tobias Harris and Al Horford which when combined for $288 million is worth the performance?

Indeed, the two seem very compatible and the Sixers look poised to make a long run in the playoffs once and for the next few seasons.

Fast forward to this year’s postseason, Harris and Horford have done the opposite of helping create chances for the Sixers in the first two games of their first-round series against the Boston Celtics.

In fact, they came up with an arguably subpar performance in Game 1 (15 points from 15 shoots for Tobias Harris and 6 points with 5 fouls for Horford) with another pointless in Game 2.

It was a surprising performance, if their scores combined only reached 17 points (13 points Harris, 4 points Horford) with 18 shooting. Even though these players have a pretty fantastic income when combined, which is $289 million.

Let’s be fair for a moment for the context that I think is important. The truth is that the Sixers have been a dysfunctional team all year and Brett Brown looks confused now.

He failed to capitalize on his assets and continued to force Joel Embiid to play on the defensive and refused to use Embiid at the post.

They also lost Ben Simmons to an injury that ruled him out, with both Harris and Horford having to push harder into the defensive end and the Sixers offense took a big hit without their All-Star playmaker running to the core.

Then again, we’re talking about nearly 300 million dollars for a two player fee which should bring more profit to the team now.

This is the NBA playoffs and you veteran players have been paid quite a fantastic fee to perform as well as the team expects.

The Sixers fans aren’t going to let the pair go any time soon and are likely to ask for the head of Elton Brand once their season is over, but they better get used to watching Horford and Harris on their team because of the contract.
