10 Weirdest High Paid Free Agents

This year’s NBA free agent doesn’t have as many big names as we saw last year, but there are some surprising contracts. SPIN will make 10 lists of free agents with high fees even though they have only been selected as an All-Star once.

Franchises are making good moves and spending a lot of money to get the assets they want.

But there are 10 free agents with the highest pay compared to their awards.

A Redditor named ‘Zandrick Ellison’ did some research and found that the 10 highest paid free agents so far have contracts that will earn them $543 million.

That was before the Gordon Hayward and Fred VanVleet deal, so the numbers are now bigger. In total, the team will pay $698.5 million to the players currently on the roster.

9. Jordan Clarkson – $52 million

8. Malik Beasley – $60 million

7. Straw Grant – $60 million

6. Danilo Gallinari – $61.5 Million

5. Marcus Morris Sr. – $64 million

4. Joe Harris – $75 million

3. Davis Bertans – $80 million

2. Fred VanVleet – $85 million

1. Gordon Hayward – $120 million (Deal reportedly still in progress)**

Something remarkable about this is that there is only one time the players on this list have actually made it into the All-Star Game.

Gordon Hayward received the call in 2017, where he was still with the Utah Jazz and that was only when he made it to the big game.

As for the other players, none made it to the ASG and the only champion on the list is VanVleet, who won the title with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

As Ellison explains, this list was created before Anthony Davis signed a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and Bogdan Bogdanovic found a new team in the league.

These players will increase the amount of money to be paid, but only AD seems to be adding more All-Star Game appearances (7).

It’s been a strange season for all that is happening outside of the league but also for things that are happening in the NBA world.

Some of these contracts are strange in the eyes of many, but some teams are willing to pay a high price to try to create a competitive squad.
